Windstorm creates power outages impacting thousands in eastern Maine, Canada

A wind storm that hit early Monday morning knocked out power to thousands of Eastern Maine Electric Cooperative (EMEC) customers, including 100 percent of their Washington County customers and some customers in Aroostook County. 

The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning from 8 p.m. Sunday, April 30, to 10 a.m. on Monday, May 1, anticipating gusts up to 50 m.p.h. Along the coast.

Washington County towns reporting ‘wicked’ voter turnout

It’s Tuesday afternoon in Machiasport, election day, and voters are lined up in the short town office hallway waiting for their turn at the three-person voting booth. Machiasport’s old wooden ballot box has already been called into service once because the new ballot scanner wasn’t working. But it’s up and running now, and town clerk Marcia Hayward is glad. With it, she’ll be able to head home around 9:30 tonight.

Two Perry residents arrested for the murder of Kimberly Neptune

The following was released by the Maine State Police today at 5 p.m.

On Friday, April 29, at approximately 4:45 p.m. the Pleasant Point Police Department and the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North arrested 38-year-old Donnell J. Dana of Perry and 38-year-old Kailie A. Brackett of Perry for the murder of 43-year-old Kimberly Neptune also of Perry. Neptune was found dead in her home on Thursday, April 21.

The Worcester family has unveiled plans to fly the world’s largest American flag atop the world’s tallest flagpole at the center of a 2,500-acre park to be located in the town of Columbia Falls. The Maine Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announces its daily findings on COVID-19 every day at noon via their website, https://www.maine.gov/dhhs/mecdc/infectious-disease/epi/airborne/coronavirus.shtml.

Today's report announced 42 confirmed cases in Maine and 10 presumptive positive cases.
