Semi-Random Election Season Notes

HVAC Politics

I am not sure whether I get more forced hot air from my heat pump or the political ads. The heat pump at least keeps me comfortable if perhaps a little dry, plus there are Green New Deal virtue signaling points. I am told that laughter and humor are good for the immune system, and given the questionable efficacy of the Covid vaccines, I probably need all the help I can get.

World Series as Election Metaphor

The Los Angeles/New York matchup is a pretty good metaphor for the election. Kamala is California – San Francisco/LA/Hollywood/woke/Electric Vehicle/Climate alarmist/Equity fascist. Trump is the native New Yorker stereotype many love to hate – wealthy/brash/obnoxious/egotistical. My problem is I have a hard time rooting for the Yankees.

In 2020, Kamala's Dodgers beat the Tampa Bay Rays (Florida being Trump’s post-Queens/Manhattan residence). However, in 2016, the Chicago Cubs defeated the Cleveland Indians (now politically correct Guardians); Hillary was born and raised in the Chicago area, but the Cubs' victory in 2016 did not translate to Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

Hancock County Senate Battle

Purple Senate District 7 includes Ellsworth, MDI, Blue Hill, and Castine. Democrat Nicole Grohoski defeated long-time moderate Republican Brian Langley to turn the seat blue. She is being challenged by long-time Hancock County Republican leader Sherm Hutchins. If hot air political ads are any guide, abortion, and climate alarmism are key issues for Grohoski supporters, while energy prices, woke anti-parental control education policies, and the $1 billion state budget shortfall are animating Hutchins voters. The outcome may well be decisive for Senate control.

Cheneys for Gabard Deal

Trading Dick and Liz Cheney for Tulsi Gabard is one of the best trade deadline deals ever.

VEEP Thoughts

One of plagiarist Kamala Harris’s first executive decisions was to pick Minnesota Governor/knucklehead/serial prevaricator Tim Walz. Donald Trump chose a smart entrepreneurial Yale Law School graduate and best-selling author. Walz is coup and succession insurance, protecting Kamala, just as she was for Biden (et tu Kamala?). JD Vance is insurance for the nation and a bright future for the GOP. Nevertheless, Donald Trump is a fascist and an existential threat to Democracy.

Maine Won’t Wait Pushes Maine’s Woke Fate

Governor Mills’ Climate Alarmist Council will be submitting its updated Maine Won’t Wait Climate Action Plan after the election. The plan doubles down on expensive and unreliable energy (wind and solar), electric vehicles, undefined “equity,” youth indoctrination, doubling public lands ownership (mostly in the poorest three counties in the Second Congressional District – Washington, Piscataquis, and Somerset), extreme weather misinformation, and moral preening/hectoring. I have been preparing and seeking support for the following legislative responses to the climate alarmists:

1. An Act to Promote Sound Science and Transparency in Climate Change Policy – would direct DEP, when promulgating GHG emission reductions, to issue an estimate based on sound science of the amount of climate change averted and at what cost, particularly to energy prices

2. An Act to Cap Public Land (federal, state, local) at no more than 50% of any county.

3. An Act to Define and Assess Equity – requires State Agencies and public K-12 and higher Ed to define equity when promoting it in any policy area and to develop metrics to assess it.

If you want higher energy prices, climate misinformation, and DEI fascism, keep the Democrats and climate alarmists in power. If you want some political and economic climate change, vote the climate alarmists out.
