Food Pantry Donation Match at Pratt Returns through December
By Jayna Smith
'Tis the season once more as Pratt Auto Dealership embarks on its annual tradition of matching donations for the local food pantry. However, this time around, the challenge has grown in scale. Owner Ian Pratt has increased his commitment by offering to match donations up to $10,000, an increase from last year's cap of $7,500. Even more, the campaign's duration has been extended through Christmas, extending from only November in years past.
Recognizing the pressing need faced by food pantries in Washington County and striving to alleviate local food insecurity, Pratt has spearheaded matching donation campaigns for several years. This year, the aim is to surpass the record set in 2019, when over $16,000 was raised. All funds collected at Pratt will be distributed among various food pantries in Washington County.
The process of donating to the campaign is simple. Those wishing to donate can simply stop into the dealership with cash or a check. A general donation, to be distributed across the county's food pantries, can be made payable to Pratt. For those specifically directing their donation to a particular Washington County pantry to be matched by Pratt, the check can be made payable to that pantry or specified during a cash donation.
Monetary donations are invaluable to food pantries like Irene Chadbourne Ecumenical in Calais, as they enhance purchasing power through partnerships with the Good Shepherd Food Bank and local bargain shopping. Additionally, funds can be allocated to maintain pantry facilities, covering costs such as heating and other essential needs.
During the colder months, food pantries often experience an increase in demand due to elevated heating expenses and other financial burdens, leaving individuals with less discretionary income for food purchases. Pratt emphasizes the importance of ensuring that people do not have to choose between heating their homes and having enough to eat.
Donations to the food pantry match campaign are tax-deductible, and receipts can be provided. Interested contributors can bring their donations to the Pratt dealership located at 143 River Road.
