Betty Louise Lovejoy

October 10, 1933 — August 30, 2025, Murphy

Our hearts are heavy as we share the news that Betty Louise Lovejoy, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, went to be with God on August 30, 2025. She was 91 years old and passed away at her daughter Kim's home in Murphy, NC.

Betty's life was a testament to enduring love. She married her childhood sweetheart, Donald William Lovejoy, not once but twice. Together, they built a beautiful life, ran a business, and raised a family until his passing.

She leaves behind a legacy of love with her daughters, Dawn Lovejoy, Kelli Lovejoy, and Kim Brownlee and her husband Donald. She was a grandmother and great-grandmother to many, and is survived by her sisters, Norma Labossiere, Linda Weingart and her husband Tom, Kim Aubin and husband Peter as well as her brother, Michael Stoddard and his wife Rita.

Born in East Machias, she was a true Mainer at heart, Betty was famous for sharing her love of her home state with everyone she met. She had a tender heart for animals and would try to save any creature in need. Her creative spirit shone through in her passion for making antique reproduction porcelain dolls, a craft she shared with her daughter Dawn, and together, they also taught classes. She loved knitting and made hundreds of beautiful hats for family and Her favorite food was fried Maine scallops, crabmeat rolls and marafax beans. Not much made her more animated than a great game of dice. She loved the heat of the sun and often recounted stories of swimming which she did for most of her life.

A gifted writer, Betty credited her mother, Louise Atsales, for passing on the skill. She adored everything about Christmas, and her excitement for the season was so great she at times, kept a tree up all year long. She made beautiful hats for family but equally for people she never met. She often said her favorite time of her life was camping and fishing on Campobello Island, Canada, and she was always proud to boast that she was the greatest flounder fisherman of all time. Her greatest spiritual joy was when her family was baptized together in Unionville, Maine.

To honor Betty's memory, the family requests that donations be made to your local animal shelter.
