Harriet’s story

by  Sherry Rier

Editor’s’ note: This is the second in a four-part series of stories from the life of Harriet Means Johnson of Machias, written by her granddaughter Sherry Rier. (See “Rier’s stories make history come alive,” MVNO, March 7, 2018.)

At every opportunity, Harriet and Zeke plotted and planned their future. Harriet knew she must defy her parents. She was in love. Given time, they would forgive her. It wasn’t possible to be away from Zeke, no matter what they thought.
