Maine’s First Gold Star Families Monument Unveiled in Columbia Falls Ceremony
Blue clear skies proved the perfect backdrop for the unveiling of Maine’s first monument dedicated to the plight of Gold Star Families and Relatives. The Woody Williams Foundation, founded by WWII Cp.l Herschel “Woody” Williams, who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his service at Iwo Jima during the closing stages of the war, has placed 160 similar monuments around the country, with another 40 in various stages of production currently.
