Law enforcement was this morning called to High Street in Machias where neighbors report the discovery of a body, apparently shot.

Multiple residents report hearing gunshots late on the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 3. 

Maine State Police are leading the investigation, which has shut down High Street to through traffic, and are assisted by the Washington County Sheriff's Office, and Machias Police Department. Maine Game Wardens are also present at the crime scene.

Officials say there is no immediate danger to the public.
