Elm Street Seventh, Eighth Graders Get Hands-On Lesson on Alewiving on East Machias River
Elm Street School’s seventh and eighth-graders have been splitting and smoking alewives from the East Machias River throughout the month of May. Once smoked, the fish are available free of charge to anyone who happens by the East Machias Smokehouse at the intersection of Route 1 and Water Street at the foot of Pope Memorial Bridge in East Machias.
